Professional Evaporator Coil & Suction Line Replacement and Maintenance
If a Sub-Zero refrigerator is running but not cooling well, the problem is often the evaporator. This part is located behind the rear panel and is responsible for making cold air. Over time, the metal can wear out and a refrigerant leak can start.
We recently repaired a compact Sub-Zero 700BR2 refrigerator in a home located in Rancho Santa Fe. The refrigerator was running, but the temperature inside was too warm. Our diagnosis showed a leak in the evaporator coil.
It is important to understand that problems like refrigerant leaks happen slowly, not all at once.
At first, the refrigerator starts running longer than normal. The air coming from the compressor feels very warm. Later, the unit may hardly turn off at all. Over time, the temperature inside keeps getting warmer and warmer until the refrigerator can no longer cool properly.
Finding this problem early is very important. If a refrigerator keeps running with a leak, the compressor can become overloaded and fail. When that happens, the repair becomes much more expensive and may require a full system rebuild.
During this repair, we replaced the evaporator coil, the suction line with the capillary tube, and the filter drier. The system was fully flushed, vacuumed, and recharged with refrigerant. The compressor was also checked for proper operating pressure. All work was done according to Sub-Zero factory standards.
After the repair, the refrigerator returned to normal and stable cooling.
Sub-Zero refrigerators are built to last, but over time even high-quality parts can wear out. In compact models like the 700BR2, an evaporator problem can affect the entire refrigerator.
Things to watch for:
The refrigerator runs longer than it used to
Cooling takes more time than before
The compressor rarely turns off
The refrigerator does not feel the same as it used to
